
Alexandra Macdonald studied at the Victorian College of the Arts. She went on to work with Company Rosalind Crisp between 1999 and 2002 and toured throughout Australia and to Belgium, France and Germany. Since then she has worked with companies including DanceWorks, The Atman Project and Not Yet Its Difficult.
She is also a founding member of Underpass, a collective of dance artists whose work spans live performance, film and installation, with a focus on the exchange between improvisation and choreography. Since 2002 she has been the recipient of numerous grants awarded by the Australia Council for the Arts as a young and emerging performer and choreographer.
In 2006 Alexandra will dance in Underpass Collective's performances of "Malleable Stacey" at the Ballhaus Mitte (Berlin), "Carbon to Glass a)" at Atelier de Paris de Carolyn Carlson (Paris) and "Carbon to Glass c)" at Cultuurcentrum Berchem (Belgium).
She has taught for major contemporary dance companies in Australia, including Chunky Move, DanceWorks, Sydney Dance Company and Bangarra Dance Theatre and has also led workshops in India and the UK.
